What are you wearing for Canada Day? A while back, Roots Canada did a fun collaboration with the popular television series, Degrassi: The Next Generation. Selected actors showcased the Roots Canada Day 2013 collection.
The collection lives up to the expectations we have come to expect from Roots. While still patriotic and comfortable, the collection doesn’t sacrifice on style or quality. Not only will you be enjoying Canada Day in style, but you’ll continue to wear the entire collection year round…and longer!
How are you spending Canada Day? Whether it’s camping, enjoying fireworks, playing some soccer or having a fun BBQ with friends, Roots will keep you themed, stylish and comfortable for the big day! Happy (early) Canada Day!

Thanksgiving…the best time to play with trends and autumn colours!
Burgundy pants…nothing says Autumn quite like them. While I was baking with fresh cranberries, I couldn’t help but appreciate the colour, the smooth texture and glow to them. It made me wish my denim jeans had more of a “glow” to them (like leather!). Burgundy pants are fun for me to incorporate into my fall/winter wardrobe. They are darker in colour, which helps slim my legs but still goes with the coloured denim trend. The “skinny” cut also helps lengthen my petite frame.
The first outfit I paired with these pants was with a floral printed top and a large gold/red crystal statement necklace (thrift store find). I also added a tailored jacket to this look to make it more professional for church.
The second outfit was more of a comfortable outfit, for me. A French Connection cardigan with a slight “poet” sleeve and a lace Guess blouse underneath. The only accessory I paired with this look was my Dooney and Burke handbag. Added a great punch of colour and really made the outfit complete! I love this picture because fashionable Autumn and I really look good together, don’t we?
Overall, I had a lovely (fashionable) Thanksgiving! What did you wear?

Alexander McQueen-Sarah Burton…ALL THE BUZZ for Spring/Summer 2013! Fantastic collection.
Here is Burton’s inspiration from the collection:
"The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It’s about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them.” Sarah Burton
This season sees the return of a heritage silhouette. Wasp waists and a constructed hip exaggerate a feminine silhouette. Signature tailored jackets are layered over jewelled, moulded resin bustier tops and sheer, mid-calf length honeycomb pencil skirts, or cropped panelled trousers. A play between covering the body and discreetly exposing it is seen throughout as the transparent is juxtaposed with the opaque and garments peel away from necklines and shoulders. Lightness is paramount: intricately woven jacquards, lacquered lace and laser cut patent leather hover over silk organza. Cages, corsets and crinolines in various incarnations are worn as underpinnings or as finished, elaborately embellished pieces in their own right. Every aspect of the foundation garment and the transformation of the body that is a hallmark of the house of Alexander McQueen is explored.
Thank you to Roots Facebook page…the wonderful staff has finally posted some exceptional photographs of their fall collection featuring those gorgeous collaboration sweaters I blogged earlier (you can find it here). I asked them if an official date has been set for the release of the sweaters and I was told the Vancouver sweater has already appeared in some stores! They told me the sweater should be available to purchased on their Online Store soon, as well! YES!
Burgundy is such an “it” colour of the season. Even my evening gown was made with that colour! Little did I know the colour was going to take off so much! I love how Roots used this colour in their jeans and accents in their clothing. A lot of people know Roots as a “sweatpants, hoodies and t-shirt” company. While, I couldn’t imagine not slipping into their sweatpants when I get home…I have to say, Roots has so much more to offer than that! Their quality of manufacturing and fabric choices is very high and not to mention all of their buttery leather products are produced IN Canada. That’s something the Canadian industry can’t always afford to offer any more. They also carry a nice line of organic cotton items and support many Canadian charities and events (the Parkinson’s walk I mentioned in my last blog was just one of them!) Another neat little fact about Roots…they started with shoes!!! So, if you visit their site…be sure to check out their fabulous shoe/boot section!!!
Here’s what Roots said about the collection:

(Early) Autumn time is here…and I am enjoying playing with fading summer and autumn colour schemes in my accessories lately. Peach and Ivory Scarves…summer fading into fall! Greens and auburn rich browns…fall is nearly here! (some of my most beautiful pieces were gifts from my mother! She has very similar taste to me!!!)
Once Autumn has officially arrived, I love to wear lots of knit sweaters, faux fur vests, wool dresses, leather accents and, of course, scarves, hats and gloves!!! This season…everything is so decorative, I’m excited to play around with Baroque influences.
Lastly, I’m so excited about the return of Starbuck’s, Pumpkin Spice Latte as well as pumpkin teas, chai teas and apple teas!!!
What are your favourite “it’s almost fall!!!” accessories and teas?
Sitting down to a morning cup of, Love Spell Green Tea…I was happy to discover my two favourite “comfy and cozy” knitwear companies, Roots Canada and Line Knitwear decided to do a 4 piece collection together. What great news to welcome in Fall 2012!
Inspired by Fair Isle knitting traditions and the gorgeous Canadian cities: Banff, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver (each sweater is named after one)…the capsule collection features cute details that Roots is known for…such as the beaver, maple leaves, geometric-inspired prints, trees, etc.) and Line’s famous “pops of colour” simplicity, draping and details. Judging from the 4 photos…I’m so excited to try on each piece once they arrive in Roots stores near the end of September!!!
Which sweater is your favourite? Mine is, Montreal! So wearable and can be dressed up or down!
