The Making of OHM Don’t Give Up | My OHMistry Bead

Ideas, Stories and Inspirations…

After brainstorming through my inspirations for my bead, I began to sketch out some ideas. I knew I wanted a mountain/journey concept, with a “dark” scary side and a “light” happy side. It was important this bead had a nature and fairytale theme too.
I was also inspired by my favourite bible verse, Hebrews 11:1 ⛰ ✨Sketching it out…
After I sketched out a few ideas, I sent my sketches and design concept to OHM Beads. We began to collaborate on the bead design! They took my ideas/concepts and transformed them into an incredible bead design. I had so many ideas for a tiny bead and I was shocked at how many of those ideas they were able to keep or expand on.
They also asked me a wonderful question: did I want the bead to be like a real mountain or more of a fictional idea? I loved their idea of a real mountain, so we went with that concept!
They sent the bead concept art to me and we tweaked around with the bead design together, playing around with snakes, wolves and ghostly creatures!
They also added an adorable mushroom house to the “light side” of the mountain. This touch was so “me” and makes me smile to this day! So sweet of them to add that detail in!After we approved the final design, it was time to test the design out in wax!
Lost-Wax Casting
OHM Beads sent me videos and photos of OHM Don’t Give Up in the lost-wax carving. The process of lost-wax casting allows intricate details to be achieved. It also provides an idea of the size and a safe testing ground to see what the details will look like, before testing it out in sterling silver.
It was fascinating to see the journey of a sketch transform into a wax carving! I was shocked to see how many details were achieved on wax.
After the wax casting was approved, it was time to move forward and create the silver master mold!Silver Master Mold
The silver master mold was incredible to see! OHM Beads sent me photos and videos from every angle. They even added a blue sharpie pen over the laser engraving placement on the You Did It, so we could see it clearly.
All our ideas were captured perfectly. The details from the wax were maintained. I could not get over how much detail made it onto a small bead. I also LOVED the font OHM Beads chose for the bottom of the bead that reads, “Don’t Give Up”.

The box art was a challenge for me! I had so many ideas, but none of them seemed “good enough”. One night, I was walking in the rain and an idea hit me: why not do a fairytale story sketch?
I took inspiration from my engagement photos. They were taken on a mountain top with a Little Red Riding Hood inspired dress that I made for the occasion. I loved the idea of a woman wearing a protective clock, on her journey up and over the “Don’t Give Up” mountain.Engagement photos taken by Calyssa Lorraine I sketched out my ideas and then created the final sketch. I coloured it in with a mixture of pencil crayons and prismacolor markers. The only thing I didn’t think about was the direction of the box, on the back. Which is why it’s in the opposite direction of other OHMistry boxes. Oops!
OHM Beads had the fantastic idea to add Don’t Give Up to the box art using the same font as the bottom of the bead. I loved that idea!
It was also during this time that I sent in my official bead description and artist biography. I found the artist biography SO hard to write! Special thank you to Nichol, my mom and Mike at OHM for giving me some ideas!Approving the Insert
After the box art, bead description and artist biography were finalized, OHM Beads sent me the bead box insert to approve. We decided to showcase the “dark side” of the mountain, when you first open the box. It is the “start of the journey”, after all! When you unfold the insert and look inside, you would see the “light side” of the mountain.
Finalizing OHM Don’t Give Up
After the “big things” were completed, OHM Beads and I confirmed a few other things that included the announcement date and release date.
And…Here We Are!
9 days until OHM Don’t Give Up releases! It is so surreal, crazy amazing and exciting. A special thank you again to OHM Beads (and all of you) for making this huge dream come true for me. Means the world and back!

OHM Beads | June Preview Unboxing & First Impressions

The Story & Inspiration Behind my Bead Design with OHM Beads | Don’t Give Up

This past Saturday, I premiered a special video on Youtube. It is part two of my “Exciting Announcement” video. If you remember from my previous blog post, I shared that I will be OHM Beads June 2020 OHMistry Project. This means I got to design my own bead with OHM Beads! It is such a surreal, crazy dream come true.
In my new video, I share a detailed look at my bead, as well as the story and inspirations behind it. This is probably my most personal (and slightly vulnerable) video yet. OHM Don’t Give Up
My OHMistry Project bead is called, DON’T GIVE UP. It is a silver oxidized bead and will be releasing on June 19th, 2020 at 10:00 AM Pacific time zone.
The limited-edition release of DON’T GIVE UP is part of Project OHMistry and is limited to 111 signed and serialized pieces. A certificate of authenticity is included inside a limited edition box (I actually got to illustrate the box art myself).
As mentioned in my video, this bead reflects a journey. It is a mountain that has a dark side and a light side to it. Here is the story behind the bead:
“DON’T GIVE UP, you tell yourself. You feel it in your heart and soul. You are meant to succeed.
It starts with those first few steps. But with all journeys, it is a struggle of faith and self-assurance. Fear finds its way to creep in. It twists your path, voices harsh judgment, creates doubt and pain. It tries to seize the victory that awaits you.
At your darkest moment, when all feels lost, this bead reminds you to keep going. Push upwards, onwards! Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.
Having faith will guide your journey, through the darkness. The clouds will open, the path will brighten and the further you go, the clearer your path becomes. You will find unexpected help. You will experience achievements, big and small. Before you know it, you will arrive at the end and the start of a new beginning.
You will be victorious. Every fear, doubt, and painful memory will be conquered.“

Here are some photos taken back on August 29th. I was at a local cafe, enjoying the end of summer while sketching out some more ideas for my OHMistry Project bead: DON’T GIVE UP. Also, can you spot my mini poodle puppy Ella, on my lap? She’s such a cutie!
My OHMistry Project bead is called, DON’T GIVE UP. It is a silver oxidized bead and will be releasing on June 19th, 2020 at 10:00 AM Pacific. As per the OHMistry Project beads, it is a limited edition bead! There will only be 111 made…which makes it extra special!
Over the next few weeks, I will continue to share the journey of designing this bead with OHM Beads, the inspiration/story behind it, as well as an unboxing and detailed look at this bead! At the present moment, I am waiting for my bead to arrive, so I can see it for the first time! I cannot wait to hold it and see all the special details in person.
Since I don’t have the bead to share with you yet, here is a little look at one of my first sketches:I also just wanted to say again: a HUGE thank you to OHM Beads and each and every one of you. OHM Kickin’ Peaches | OHMistry Project with MyPrettyCharmedLife
Two days ago I uploaded a very special video for me because it is all about the bead my best friend, Nichol (AKA @MyPrettyCharmedLife) designed in collaboration with OHM Beads. The bead is called OHM Kickin’ Peaches. You can watch the video above to hear my review and thoughts on her bead.

Photo courtesy of OHM Beads. As all of you know, I am a HUGE tea addict and I have embarrassingly large cupboards of teas (yes, I said cupboards). But not to worry, they are all organized by tea type (green, oolong, black, etc.) as well tea bags and loose leaf teas. It is very safe for me to say that I could probably open up my own tea shop, with the amount of teas I have!

One of the reasons I love tea is because of the experiences that goes along with it.
Here are some of my favourite tea experiences:
– the art of making tea is a relaxing experience that provides a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life. I love preparing the perfect cup of tea or tea latte. It is a time to stay present, in the moment!
– designing with the OHM Alice in Wonderland collection
– picking out the perfect mug or tea cup is such a fun experience!
– afternoon tea or high tea is honestly the BEST way to catch up with loved ones and create memories to last a life time!
– having a friend over for tea!
– after dinner dessert…usually mean tea! And usually means time with love ones!
– TEA PARTIES!!!!
– going to a local tea shop and smelling and sampling hundreds of amazing teas…one of the best ways to spend an hour, if you ask me!
– grabbing a tea-to-go and going for walk in a winter wonderland or on an autumn day…nothing quite like it!
– bubble tea or iced tea…on a hot summer’s day. Again…nothing quite like it!
– sharing a cup of tea with a guinea pig named, Harlow. THE BEST!

The TAO In Process bead officially released on February 29th, 2020. The 29th of February was the leap year and that means that no other beads will be released on that day for another 7 years! Pretty darn cool!
The first batch of this bead were also sold at a special price of $66.00 US for early adopters.
Here is the meaning behind the bead:
“We are all “In Process”.

We are all struggling with something. We have all overcome great obstacles.

A new video is up on my Youtube channel. If you remember my last blog post, this is the video about the OHM Beads Alice in Wonderland collection. I also share some scenes from when Nichol (MyPandoraCharmedLife) and I went to the Ivy Tea Room. They were having an Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party and this was one of the reasons I came to visit Nichol, at the end of February/early March (I also just LOVE her and missed her terribly, haha)! #beadsandtea was so much fun!
